Apprenticeship as a structural draughtsman. Further training to become a construction manager (HF) at IBZ Bern, Swiss School of Engineering and Management. Later a four-year break from the construction profession and transfer to the SBB works force. Trained as a fire protection specialist and transferred to Gartenmann Engineering as a fire protection project manager. Further training to earn a Swiss federal diploma as a fire protection expert (Association of Cantonal Fire Insurance Companies).
